Well I have read that the NRL is not going to suspend Todd Carney for drink driving. Now if it was any other player would they have gotten off ?? If it would have been a fringe player, either the team or the league would have suspended him for several games, and given him a fine. If the player had a history of drunken behaviour, he most likely would have had his contract torn up. A good example is one Todd Carney who played for the Canberra Raiders.
I hear you asking "Todd Carney you say ??" That's right, the same guy. Go back to June 2007, Carney fronted a Canberra Magistrate over driving offences, and was told he needed to take responsibility for his actions. I believe he had said he was sorry and that it won't happen again, or something similar. Move forward another year or so, this pillar of the community also is caught urinating on someone, stomping on someone's car, and then trying to burn a mates crotch in a prank. Last year this 'honourable' man came out and said he was giving up the booze so that he could straighten out his life. The fans of the game applauded him, and it seemed that he had gotten his life back on track.
Now he is caught drink driving at 7 a.m. on the way to a meeting. He must have had one heck of a night if he was still over the normal limit for alcohol, which is 0.05%. Regardless of the fact he is on a provisional license and his blood alcohol limit is 0. For a guy who supposedly quit drinking, how come he had that much alcohol in his system ?? If the meeting was so important, surely he could have afforded a taxi to the meeting. This guy does not seem to learn from his mistakes, and getting sacked from one club, and spending a year away from the league didn't seem to make an impression on him. So what hope does giving him a little fine have of getting this guy to take this seriously ??
